As this activity offers an introduction to Magic e, we have focused on one-syllable words. Please note that this pack does not cover the long e sound. After much research and deliberation, we decided to remove the long e activities before publishing the product as the children in our test groups found the visuals too cryptic (the long e words were not conducive to our highly visual teaching strategy – eve, scene, Steve, Pete, these, theme, etc). Instead, we doubled the amount of long a, i, o and u words included, to create a clear and visual 80-page resource. Through engaging with these resources, it is our hope that students will gain a solid understanding of the role of the silent e – and how it can alter the sound of another vowel – thus assisting them to decode new CVCe words as they encounter them.
