This Beginning Sounds Treasure Hunt pack contains 13 fun ‘Print and Play’ outdoor literacy activities. Students find special Treasure Cards hidden around the playground and write the words on an activity sheet, sorting them by beginning sound. Students can count their treasure at the end of each activity and write it in the space provided. Featuring Queensland Beginners Font.

We love this activity because it gets kids up and moving! Your little treasure hunters will find this outdoor activity stimulating and interactive. Not only will they receive the wonderful benefits of outdoor learning, they will also be consolidating their letter-sound knowledge and improving their word recognition.  Your students will have so much fun they won’t even realise they are learning!

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Hide the picture cards around your school playground and green space.
  2. Provide students with an activity sheet, clipboard and pencil.
  3. Send students on a treasure hunt to search for cards that begin with the sounds on their activity sheet.
  4. When students have located a card, they write the word in the correct column.
  5. The more cards students find and words they write, the more treasure coins they will receive.
  6. Invite students to count their coins and write the amount they collected in the space provided.
