Year Levels: Foundation/Prep
This pack is made up of 26 beginning sound peg cards featuring beautiful vibrant images. These cards are perfect for small groups to engage with during literacy rotations. They are also a popular independent Early Finisher activity.
CONCEPTS AND SKILLS INCLUDE:
- Phonological awareness – initial sounds
- Phonics
- Alphabet
- Concepts of print
- Fine motor – pegging
AS A LITERACY ROTATION ACTIVITY:
- Place peg cards and a basket of pegs on the table.
- Invite students to choose a card and clip pegs onto the pictures that begin with the letter in the middle of the card.
- When a student has completed the activity, they can ask a friend to check their answers for them.
- Students can then remove pegs, return their card and choose another one.
ALTERNATIVES TO PEGS:
Students could use a range of different manipulatives with these cards i.e. buttons, teddy bear counters. Invite students to make up their own rules i.e. “A green counter means it DOES start with that letter. A red counter means that it DOES NOT.
